Terms of Service

Effective date: May 30, 2026

These terms govern your use of the Voynich Archive (“the Service,” “we,” “us”), a small research site that indexes scholarship and discussion about the Voynich Manuscript. By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

01. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using the Service you confirm you are at least 13 years old and that you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy.

02. The service

The Service provides search and citation-tracing over a curated corpus of primary documents, secondary literature, and forum threads relating to the Voynich Manuscript. It is provided free of charge for non-commercial research and educational use. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without notice.

03. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
  • Scrape, crawl, or harvest content at a rate that disrupts service for others.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the admin area, API, or underlying infrastructure.
  • Submit malicious code, spam, harassment, or content that infringes third-party rights.
  • Misrepresent the source or accuracy of search results when redistributing them.

04. Admin accounts

Public visitors do not need an account. Administrator accounts are issued by invitation only and are subject to revocation at any time. Account holders are responsible for safeguarding their sign-in credentials.

05. Submissions

If you send us content through the contact form, mailing list, or any other channel, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use that content for the purpose of operating and improving the Service (for example, responding to your message or fixing a reported bug). You confirm that you have the right to send the content and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.

06. Intellectual property

The Service's original software, design, and editorial selection are owned by Edward Bozzard. Source-document content remains the property of its original authors and is shown under fair dealing / fair use principles for research, citation, and commentary. You may quote search results in your own work with proper attribution; you may not redistribute the corpus in bulk.

07. Third-party content

The Service indexes material written by third parties and uses third-party AI models to rewrite queries and synthesize answers. We do not endorse, guarantee, or take responsibility for the accuracy of any third-party content or AI-generated output. You are responsible for independently verifying anything you rely on.

08. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from harmful components. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

09. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to GBP 100. This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer where those rights cannot be waived.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, demand, or damages arising from your misuse of the Service or your violation of these terms.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have breached these terms or if continued provision of the Service to you poses a risk to us or other users.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from or related to these terms or the Service, save that consumers resident elsewhere in the UK or EU retain the protection of mandatory local law and may bring proceedings in their country of residence.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Substantive changes will be reflected in the effective date at the top. Continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
